Karin Harris
Watercolor Artist, Instructor, World-Wide Art & Cultural Tour Leader
I am intrigued by the illumination of light and the dance of shadows in the world around me. My quest is to capture these elements in my botanicals, landscapes and still-life paintings.
I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Oregon State University and worked as a Free-Lance Artist and art instructor at Marylhurst College, Multnomah Art Center and for the City of Portland, Oregon for over 20 years. I have been represented by the Antionette Hatfield and Gottlieb Galleries in Portland, while also participating in Invitational and Juried Shows throughout the Pacific NW. With much excitement, I owned my own gallery, “An Artist’s Place,” located in the heart of Portland’s Pearl District. Many of my pieces are in permanent collections in Pacific NW banks, corporations and professional offices.
While teaching and painting in the Oregon area, I had the joy of creating and leading Worldwide Art and Cultural Tours. My focus was historic art areas of the Mediterranean countries of Europe where the light is vibrant and exciting to paint, as well as Mexico’s Mayan Ruins and their colorful, culturally-rich towns.
I am new to Coachella Valley and pleased to be active in the La Quinta Women Artists Group, the Desert Art Center and Coachella Valley Watercolor Society -- from which I received an award during their 2018 Annual Exhibit. Old Town Artisan Studios has additionally provided me the opportunity to teach the ‘Joy of Watercolor I and II” classes as well as Creative Drawing at their beautiful facility in La Quinta.
Curiosity with light and color has always been my inspiration.
